Being a self-advocate means telling my support staff when something is not working right, like transportation.
As self-advocates, we also tell people when their words hurt, such as calling me the “R” word. We do things that everyone else does. I tell people who do not have disabilities, that I am a person with skills, feelings and rights just as they have.
